When I found this project on Pinterest they were originally supposed to be used as tea light candle holders, but as a class we talked about them being used as containers for change, jewelry, sea shell holders, etc.

3rd Graders Begin Their Clay Peacocks
What a fun class! In order to have an entire class period to begin our clay project, we had to do an extra long demonstration today and the students did great! Unfortunately, I used my iPad mini and you can't see too much of what I'm doing, so this video will not appear under my project demonstrations (I'm going to have a more picture friendly version there) but the commentary is great and the students seemed to enjoy being my "camera crew".

First Painting Day in Kindergarten!
Kindergartners did a fantastic job during their first ever painting lesson! We talked about the life and work of Picasso's friend, Joan Miro. One of the wonderful things that makes Miro relevant at the Kindergarten level is his love and incorporation of shapes into his work.

Welcome Back!
I am so excited to begin another school year in the art room! While not much has changed, we do have a couple of new additions to the room this year. For the first time ever, students are going to be working on a sketchbook throughout the year. This sketchbook will be housed in the art room, but students will be bringing it home on the last day of school. When students have completed their project, they will then get their sketchbook and work on the assignment that coincides with the artwork they just completed. The assignments are designed to inspire creativity and challenge students to build upon the material we learn in class. The next new addition to the art room, is the #Student Gallery. This is a bulletin board that is in the art room and meant to be a place for students to display artwork created at home or during free time in the art room.

Owls! Owls! Owls!
Here are some examples of first grade owl paintings that have been traced with oil pastels. Students were given the task to not only give their owl an occupation, but to also add as much detail as possible.

Fourth Grade Hundertwasser Landscapes
Fourth graders have begun the process of creating a fantasy landscape that closely mirrors the artwork of Austrian artist, Friedensreich Hundertwasser. We of course are keeping it simple by just calling him Hundertwasser.
