Kyle STEAM Project

Self Portraits

This past 2nd grade art/recess lunch group spent some time learning how to draw a portrait of someone who is important to them. We've been studying the life and work of Claude Monet and we were so inspired by some of his portraits of friends and family that we decided to make some of our own!

Animation HD for Kids

After having students experiment with the water cycle as well as create silhouettes that demonstrate what happens when light hits a solid object, I decided to take my STEAM efforts in a different direction by having students create an animation of their own. The first obstacle that needed to be overcome was finding a FREE animation app that would be easy for students to use, easy for me to teach, and finally easy for me to upload and save. Animation HD is an ok app on its own merit, but it when considering it's free, it's an amazing app.
Here are a few of the movies second graders created:

Ice Cube Painting 9/17/15-10/15/15

My first STEAM project this year is working with second graders during lunch time to discuss the water cycle and the transition from a liquid to a solid when cooled to 32 degrees. Next week, we will begin discussing the reverse process of water as we take the ice cubes out of the freezer and begin painting with them as they transition back into a liquid.
